The City of Joburg has rolled out over 1000 free WiFi hotspots in public places around the city. You can find a free WiFi hotspot in 80+ libraries,  30+ clinics, swimming pools, Rea Vaya bus stations and so much more, providing you with endless digital services at your fingertips.

You can connect to this free data via the following network links: “CoJsmartwifi” or “Joburg_FreeWiFi”.

These networks allow citizens to connect to the internet from their mobile phones, laptops and PCs as easy as one, two, three.

  1. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
  2. Your device will search for all the available Wi-Fi networks. Be sure to choose an open WiFi. If the network is not open there will be a “lock” icon next to the networks name which will require a password
  3. Tap the name of the Wi-Fi network you’d like to join: CoJsmartwifi or Joburg_FreeWiFi and just like that you will be connected.

The City’s network will provide you with 300 MB of data per day which is equivalent to 9 GB per month for general usage and if you accesses services via the zero rated Maru A Jozi portal – http://www.maruajozi.joburg/ you will have uncapped internet usage.
